Sam Guthrie

New Mutant

---

Sam is a 5'10" blonde boy nicely filling out an X-Men spandex suit and totally superfluous goggles, considering his powers.

Background

Sam Guthrie was born to a large, poor family in the southern United States. When his mutant powers manifested, it was by the grace of whatever theoretical guardian angel may have been watching over him that he was accepted into Sky High. He learned how to control his powers thanks to the X-Men, otherwise he shudders to think what might have happened if other Mutants didn't help him get a handle on his blast field. Sometimes he feels like a charity-case. On most days, Sam is as sweet and wholesome as apple pie.

SKILLS

Strategist - Competent Level

Sam's brain breaks down information incredibly fast, and he sees solutions to things in deceptively simplistic terms that seem obvious to him. Whether it has anything to do with his mutation or all the split-second decisions his brain's been trained to make while blasting around like a Cannonball is subject of some speculation.

Tumbling - Competent Level

Not exactly a gymnast but all that Danger Room training has started to stick and Sam has a knack for laughing at gravity.

ABILITIES

Power: Blasting - Enhanced Level

Sam has a mutant ability he calls Blasting in which projects thermo-kinetic energy from his body, creating an impenetrable forcefield that renders him nearly invulnerable. The field can propel him, like a Cannonball.

ADVANTAGES

Charisma

The boy is sunshine. You can feel the integrity radiating off him from ten feet away. His 'simple countryboy' charm has sometimes earned him the nickname 'Hayseed,' and it's supposed to derogatory but basically nobody can say it without some affection.

Grounded

The irony of a flying, beautiful boy being one of the most down to earth and unpretentious people you could meet. He really, really, really doesn't wanna accidentally find himself in the figurative shoes of Icarus.

Sky High

He's one of the school's golden boys that people will do anything for. (But what's sad is, Sam doesn't even really know).

WEAKNESSES

Hayseed

Sam's upbringing was extremely rural. He'd always seen his county as his whole world. Far away places like Sky High didn't even seem real. Being thrust into situations outside his experience and scenarios that are way over his head has caused him no end of frustrations, migraines, and resulted in some anti-social tendencies in order to avoid looking like a total idiot bumpkin.

Spotlight

He was a middle kid amongst so many siblings and he would have given anything for some attention. Then his powers manifested, and Sam suddenly got way, way, way more attention and scrutiny than he could handle. Sam freezes when he feels like he's in the spotlight. He wants to make everyone happy with him and the fear of failure or making the wrong call in front of everyone can be truly paralyzing.
