A man who seems to exist a step outside of the conventional world. Though he appears human and doesn't have any physical features that would indicate otherwise, some quality about him is different.

Background

Centuries ago, Ruxar was born. Immediately, he was disappointed with what he found waiting for him and threw himself into the study of that which is beyond nature. Early on, he met the demon who would then become Dantalian and Dantalos, and they developed a bond between them that benefited all of them. As Ruxar continued to immerse himself in magic and the supernatural, he stepped farther away from humanity, but he didn't mind this as he had already decided that humanity was not enough for him.

For some time, agents of the church and other religious-minded people hounded and pursued him, but they could never manage to defeat him. Even at the worst times, Ruxar didn't have the hesitation that many others did; he had no desire to remain part of human society, so he had no reason to hold back in preserving himself from his would-be enemies. He readily but firmly dealt with entities humans found terrifying, without giving away anything important. In this way, he increased his power and influence, while simultaneously distancing himself further from being human. There wasn't a singular moment when Ruxar finally stopped being human. Gradually, he concentrated his power, until he found himself becoming something different, distinct from what he had started as. His domain came together, and he withdrew into it for some time. It was during this period that he immersed himself in otherworldly concerns.

He became aware of the larger multiverse, and specifically a universe in it that was fading, like a dream. And appropriately, there were baku, dream-eaters, who existed there to eat the dreams. They had merged back into a singular one, prepared to disappear with the rest of the universe. But Ruxar decided that this was not acceptable, and he intervened to save the tapir. Ruxar brought this being, named Sunshower, to his realm and welcomed him to his home.

This strange, small, but delightful family continued to exist together in Ruxar's realm, enjoying the pleasant neighbourhood around the house and all the manor's luxury together.

SKILLS

Alchemy - Competent Level

Not only able to brew potions and create balms and elixirs, Ruxar is also knowledgeable about the interactions of various substances and can also prepare medicines and treatments. He is also able to blend substances for smoking and other ingestion, and is extremely knowledgeable about intoxicants and a variety of poisons.

Cooking - Competent Level

Quite an able cook, Ruxar usually prefers to let others cook and likes to enjoy the food. However, if he needs to do it, he does it with great flair. He is able to throw things together and be generally very sure of success, though if he has the chance to prepare beforehand and can gather the ingredients he wants, he's almost always able to achieve a truly great outcome.

Dance - Expert Level

Ruxar is a solid dancer, but what sets him at expert level is his broad understanding of dance as an expression, as well as a useful tool in magic. He is able to intuitive comprehend different forms of dance and see how they can be used for mystical purposes, as well as expression. He is knowledgeable in a number of styles of dance.

History - Competent Level

Music - Competent Level

Ruxar is able to play a number of instruments and sings quite well. He can appreciate virtually any kind of music.

Mysticism - Expert Level

Ruxar has studied various forms of witchcraft and mysticism, and he is a world-class expert at the least on a number of studies. He can, for example, easily carry on a conversation with other informed experts at their level.

Paint - Competent Level

Ruxar is a very good painter, though he only does it casually. He prefers to work with watercolours.

ABILITIES

Magic: Ageless - Basic Level

Ruxar is ageless and immune to time itself. He does not physically age, nor can any part of time or time-related magic affect him.

Magic: Magic - Supreme Level

Given enough preparation and any resources needed, Ruxar can accomplish virtually any feat using magic. He has developed an intuitive ability to control magic and can improvise spells and rituals with a high probability of success. If exposed to a work of magic, he will probably be able to understand its fundamentals quickly. Though he prefers to nudge magic in a different direction if possible, something he excels at, he could also likely come up with a counterspell to break enchantment, for example.

Timeless

Ruxar is immune to time as a force and cannot be affected by time itself or time-related magic or tech.

Magic: Transcendent - Supreme Level

Ruxar may look human, but he is not. He doesn't strictly need to eat or drink, but it's not pleasant if he doesn't, and he gets bored. He doesn't need to sleep, but he likes to. He could probably make himself immune to poisons -- they can't really kill him, as it is -- but he likes drinking, smoking, and other altered states brought on by these things.

He has become essentially an avatar of his force of will, and magic. He is not easy to harm, but if he should be somehow destroyed, as long as his domain exists, he will reform there. Extreme temperatures and conditions don't affect him as much as they might other humans and superhumans. His body physically resembles a human body closely, but it is closer to a magical facsimile.

His form can be affected by magic readily, though, and magical items as well. Hostile magics and barriers can disrupt Ruxar's abilities and even interfere with some of his skills. He can be attacked by regular weapons, but they don't have the same effect on him. For example, he could be cut by a sword, but he would also heal it fairly easily. He does bleed, but rather than being regular human blood, it is rich with magic.

ADVANTAGES

Allies

Ruxar has a number of supernatural allies that he can call upon most times. Three live with him: one is a tapir, or baku, a creature who eats dreams, named Sunshower. Two are demons and twins, Dantalian and Dantalos. Essentially, they are the same person, but their aspects are very different with their accent; Dantalian is more the mature older brother vibe, while Dantalos is more rambunctious and wilder, and feels like more of a younger brother, even though they are both identical in appearance and age.

Collection

Ruxar keeps a collection of both magical books and other resources, and magical items, as well as significant objects. These can come in handy in a variety of situations, though many of them will have a specific situation they will excel in. Some of the items are more powerful than others, and some are dangerous, but they are safe kept in Ruxar's domain. There are probably items there that are unique in the universe.

Domain

Velvet Manor is Ruxar's domain and, as such, he is essentially invincible inside it. Anywhere on the grounds of his home, he is able to manifest his will and accomplish virtually anything. Attempts to harm him will almost certainly be ineffectual, and attempts to harm the house or the grounds will, similarly, not tend to be very successful. Similarly, attempting to harm any of the domain's inhabitants is as unlikely to happen, as they will be under Ruxar's protection. Velvet House exists outside of conventional space and time, so it is also not affected by either. It can function as a kind of vehicle, in that he can open doors and portals to other worlds and even between places in a world.

Easy Charm

Ruxar can be imposing and capricious at times, but he is easy to charm if one knows how. Food, drink, and smoke are excellent starts, and something given earnestly and with value either to the giver or in thought of what it is will usually endear someone to Ruxar quickly. However, it must be noted that if something is given that shows lack of thought or lack of consideration to his sensibilities, it can backfire and cultivate the opposite.

No Longer Human

Ruxar is no longer human. As a result, most other living things don't see him as human. Even humans will sense that something is different about him, and humans sensitive to magic will be very sure that he is closely related to it. This can be an advantage, since even if a magical being may dislike humans, they will not consider Ruxar to be one.

Taisho

The Taisho is a small neighbourhood in Port-Au-Feu, just off Le Jardin. It has a retro sensibility to it, and it often feels like it is larger than the area should be. It often feels slightly different there, and sometimes even may seem to be slightly different times of day to the rest of the city. This effect is most pronounced, the closer one gets to Velvet Manor, which is Ruxar's house. This is because the Taisho is essentially a magical extension of Ruxar's domain, which is focused around his home. Inhabitants of the Taisho tend to be special in some way, though the exact way is not always obvious. Time doesn't pass exactly the same way within the Taisho as it does outside of that area. As in his home and central domain, Ruxar is extremely strong in the Taisho and can assert his will on his surroundings with a minimum of effort compared to elsewhere in the city. Those who come to the Taisho bearing Ruxar ill will often find themselves turned around and impossibly disoriented, shown the door subtly but firmly.

WEAKNESSES

Enemies

As one would imagine for someone so old as Ruxar, he has a number of powerful enemies, including witch-hunters, gods and beings he has opposed or brought low, cults and religions, and more. Ruxar has an obscure reputation, but certain groups and figures know of him well enough.

No Longer Human

Ruxar doesn't always get humans. He has problems understanding and relating to them, and prefers to deal with non-humans, especially demons, ghosts, and spirits. He tends to stay out of human society and does not, as a rule, intervene unless absolutely necessary...or unless he just happens to want to.

Peeves

Despite having a long existence, Ruxar has a few things that remarkably try his patience. When his temper is set off, reason can be set aside. He does not tolerate fools lightly, and he has very little patience for most organised religion. He does not recognise mundane authority in most circumstances. He also tends to be a protective person for those few he lets close to him, and if they are put in danger, his retribution for this will be fierce.

Sybarite

A great lover of luxury and pleasure, Ruxar is easily tempted by these things. He especially enjoys novelty, so the offer of a bliss he has never before experienced will almost certainly pique his interest. If made uncomfortable, he quickly grows discontent and strongly dislikes any interference with his pleasure.

Unmotivated

Ruxar typically requires motivation outside himself to accomplish grand tasks. While he can at times involve himself in great plans and craft designs to achieve his goals, he's accomplished most of what he set out to do. Most of the time, he occupies himself with leisure, close to home. He tends to prefer situations where he can make small changes and manipulate subtle effects which later become crucially important to the resolution.
