Paladin of Light
Sir Drake Wisegard is a Paladin of Light and a member of the Altur Guild of Heroes in good standing.

Often found around the Altur guild house or sailing the skies aboard his airship, Drake is a knight-errant who follows the path of his order. A life of adventure and heroic deeds has been his calling since he was a boy, and he has some small renown in for his deeds.

He upholds the major tenets of the Order of Light: be honorable, be courteous, vanquish evil, uphold the good, protect the innocent, aid those in need, and of course -- duly punish the naughty!

Personality

Drake has a strong conscience. He feels compassion for those around him, and believes in honesty and fair play. He wants to make the world a better place, and is willing to put himself in danger in the name of his principles. While morality and optimism are important parts of Drake's character, they could not exist without his fun-loving nature. He truly loves life, and takes great joy in the world around him. He's definitely the "game" sort, always willing to join in whatever diversion is taking place. Whether games, athletic pursuits, or just friendly conversation, Drake really puts himself into all he does. Honor is also one of Drake's highest ideals, and to him the most important part of that is loyalty. He would never betray a friend, and would be very hard to persuade to even betray his word given to an enemy. He is honest and considers his word to be his bond. He has a great sense of responsibility for those he cares about, and will do whatever he can to protect them from harm. He would go to the ends of the Earth and beyond for a friend in need, and never expect anything in return.

Background

Drake was born the son of a male Elf, a bold explorer and privateer, and a female human, a Cleric of the Light. Being raised by his mother with a strict but loving moral upbringing produced a young man of great character and devotion to good. He entered training as a paladin from a young age, and he was named a member of the order on his eighteenth birthday. Upon graduating, he joined the Altur Guild of Heroes so that he could both support himself and uphold his mission of doing good and rendering aid to those in need. When his father disappeared, Drake inherited his airship, the Skygarde. His mother remains a cleric in service of the Light. For some years now, Drake has walked his path with loyalty and dedication, and he is always ready to leap forth to adventure. And when there is no evil demanding his attention, he is happy to spend time with his comrades and enjoy the pleasures of good friends and good company, also seeking to serve as best he can as an example of rightness and virtue.

ABILITIES

Power: Divine Awareness - Enhanced Level

Touch of Virtue, Sight of Truth, Scent of Evil, Sound of Need: These allow Drake to sense the nature of creatures who are not hidden by very potent magic or divine protection, including perceiving virtue, seeing past illusion and deception, detecting evil, and hearing the call of those in need.

Power: Divine Light - Enhanced Level

Light the Darkness, Hands of Healing, Punishing Smite: Drake's path grants him the ability to summon holy light, heal the injuries of those with good in their hearts, and to punish misdeeds. For evil creatures, this might seriously harm or obliterate them. For the mildly naughty, it only stings a bit. (Power level may increase to Supernatural for the exceptionally corrupt or decrease to Basic or even zero if the target is generally moral.)

Power: Divine Strength - Supreme Level

Might of the Just, Valor of the True Heart, Defense of the Guardian: Adherence to the path of virtue grants Drake great strength, unwavering courage and resistance to unwanted mental influence, as well as great durability, defensive prowess, and resistance to illness and toxins.

ADVANTAGES

Airship

The Skygarde is an airship that Drake inherited from his father. It bears few armaments, but it is swift and very sturdy, built by the wisdom and mysticism of the elves. It is a reliable means of travel, as well as a safe place to live while traveling abroad.

Gear

Drake has a divinely empowered sword, blessed armor, and all the other accoutrements of a paladin and traveling hero. He also owns a horse, which is usually kept stabled at the Altur Guild of Heroes.

Resources

Drake has access to all the resources available to a member in good standing of the Altur Guild of Heroes. He also has the authority of a Paladin of the Order of Cosmenia, and his good name and excellent reputation have opened many doors for him.

WEAKNESSES

Divine Authority

Drake is bound to divine authority. This means that his powers will only work so long as his path remains true and his heart pure. All of his abilities affect others only in measure of their inner darkness or corruption: he cannot cause true harm to an innocent.

Enemies

As a Paladin of the Light, Drake is hated by many creatures of evil and darkness. He also has a fair reputation as a do-gooder, so many less than upstanding citizens, rogues, and villains might wish him harm.

Paladin's Code

Drake is bound by the code of the paladin. He may never lie, must always offer help to innocents in need, must oppose true evil or corruption wherever he finds it, and must be generally courteous of bearing and kind to others. Of course, in minor matters this sometimes grants a bit more leeway for fun and games than many people assume...
