Ussyx

Patron of Astronomers, Diviners, and Oneiromancers

Ussyx, the Celestial Dragon, is revered in Arcadia as the God of the Starry Night. He is considered an old god, not necessarily part of the Brilliant Cosmenia but also not an enemy of it. In the ancient pantheon, Ussyx governed over the realms of Constellations, Visions, and Divination. He was classically the patron of Astronomers and Oneiromancers. This aligned him closely with Aethe, sovereign deity of both magic and dreams. Some venerate him still, and shrines to Ussyx can be found here and there throughout Arcadia. However, in recent years he has been mysteriously silent, absent from all knowledge of even his most dedicated priests and oracles.

Worship

All shrines or temples to Ussyx are built outdoors or open to the sky. Most commonly, since ancient days, Ussyx seldom had traditional temples; rather, open air shrines atop or adjacent to observatories were the Celestial Dragon's most common sites of veneration. These sites were often tended by astronomers more than priests, frequently home to oracles, truth-sayers, and diviners. Once great places of knowledge and learning, most have fallen into disuse and ruin. Some of these structures are rumored to still exist, but the vanished god's holy sites are now vanishingly rare.

Holy Day

The Night of Returning Stars was observed annually, beginning at midnight before the rise of the third new moon after the Spring Equinox. During this time, visions and divination practices are believed to be clearest. The celebrations would continue until the next midnight. Traditions ranged from The Celestial Vigil, held on Returning Stars' Eve from pre-dawn to the rise of the first star. Other festivities included Star-Mapping & Oathmaking, Oil-Lantern “Vision Processions,” the Nightfall Feast, and finally the rite of The Closing Star-Word, during which participants speak a single word of intention for the next year into the night sky.
