Clairvoyant Sorcerer
Clovaht of the Steppes, better known as Vaht, is a clairvoyant sorcerer with an instinctive talent for magic and a particular aptitude for scrying, farseeing, and psychometric magics. He travels with his companion, a large white lion named Therion, and he lives with his friend, Mazido, the Wizard of the Flying Palace, Lodestone Keep.

Background

Hailing from a distant land, Vaht was always gifted with a natural talent for sorcery and divination, skills that he developed as he grew up, coming to be quite skilled in their use. After he came of age, he sought travel and adventure, coming to the vast southern plains. There, he encountered a white lion who had run afoul of an enraged hippopotamus, and Vaht used his magic to distract the angry creature, allowing himself and the lion to escape. Vaht felt he had to protect this lion, whom he named Therion. Therion, meanwhile, determined that Vaht was the one that needed protecting. The two became friends, developing a close mystic bond over time.

Vaht's travels eventually also led him to meet Mazido, a gifted wizard, and the two became good friends. In time, Vaht even moved in to Mazido's magnificent flying tower, which normally floats high above the Bay of Omens, and the two have since divided their time between living in their magical home and occasionally having various adventures.

SIGNATURE ABILITY

Polymorph Companion

Once per day, Vaht is able to transform Therion into another type of creature for up to one hour's time. While so transformed, Therion can take on the shape of any other creature, as small as an insect or as large as an elephant. This includes mythical creatures, such as giant eagles or small dragons, as well as more mundane creatures.

ABILITIES

Innate: Awareness - Enhanced Level

Vaht's senses are all of Enhanced level, and he is generally quite alert and usually attentive to his surroundings, though his particular aptitude tends to lean more toward mystical rather than physical awareness.

Magic: Divination - Supreme Level

Vaht is especially skilled at magics that involve farseeing, scrying, and observing past events. He is not especially gifted at foresight, and in fact, it is something of a running joke with those who know him that his predictions are often incorrect. Even so, he can cast his perceptions across vast distances, conjure up past events, and otherwise divine the present and the past with great success and expertise.

Elf Heritage

Vaht's elven blood ensures that he does not age past physical maturity, that he is immune to disease, and that he is highly resistant to supernatural forms of darkness and corruption. He enjoys the various benefits of an elven bloodline, particularly of the more magic-inclined and less supremely nimble sort.

Innate: Mind - Enhanced Level

As is the case with many elves, Vaht was born with an exceptionally keen intellect and a naturally strong will. His training as a sorcerer has helped to strengthen and refine those natural abilities, making him quite intelligent and also resistant to most mental influences.

Magic: Sorcery - Enhanced Level

Vaht is an accomplished magical practitioner. Apart from his expertise at Divination, he is a fairly well-rounded sorcerer. When it comes to general sorcery, he can readily cast a wide array of combat and utility magic, including defensive, conjuration, and evocation spells. With a bit of preparation, he can also ready himself to cast transmutation, illusion, and most other forms of spellcasting.

Innate: Vitality - Enhanced Level

Vaht is quite vital and his health quite robust due to his elven heritage, making him more resistant to toxins, harsh conditions, and so forth.

ADVANTAGES

Equipment

Apart from generally being well-provisioned as an adventurer, having all the standard equipment and survival gear one might need for such endeavors, Vaht also carries a staff, basic protective gear that provides some measure of magical defense despite his minimalist clothing, and a cloak of environmental protection, which keeps him comfortable even in extreme weather conditions.

Mazido

Mazido is a wizard and a close friend of Vaht's, the two having known one another for quite a long time. Vaht even lives in Mazido's enchanted flying tower, where he keeps a room, just down the hall from the stable area set aside for Therion. The two are often able to provide one another with support and companionship for whatever their needs might be.

Therion

Therion is a white lion, so large that Vaht could ride him as a mount if he were so inclined. Therion is very physically strong and resilient, as well as having fairly adept reflexes and agility. His intelligence is far beyond that of a typical animal, and thanks to his mental bond to Vaht, it is warded against invasive mental effects. He and Vaht are also telepathically linked, allowing them to communicate instantly and silently even across great distances.

WEAKNESSES

Flashbacks

Having seen so many visions of alternate timelines and possible realities, if Vaht becomes too distracted or emotionally overwhelmed, he can become briefly lost in visions of events that have never taken place in his actual reality. As much as this sometimes gives Vaht interesting insights into himself, it can also be terribly distracting at inconvenient times.

Material Components

To cast complex magic, Vaht writes out his spells as runic incantations on small strips of paper, which he has to have on hand to cast magic via his sorcery. Without his pouch of written spells, he is restricted to only casting the simplest, most basic magic, such as cantrips and simple utility spells. This limitation does not apply to his divination magic.

Social Complications

Vaht has certain social challenges, largely linked to being a seer who is often perceiving faraway or past phenomena, which can make him seem distracted and a bit air-headed at times. He can also be a bit vain, especially hating to be dirty or disheveled for too long because he is concerned with how others see him. This especially applies to how he is seen by attractive men, for whom he often has quite a weakness.
