The city-state of Lyne is the last true human kingdom, but their endurance is based largely in a race-based fascism that is always "humans first." Still terrified of being dominated by elves, as they were during the Great War, they tend to cultivate extreme xenophobia, though they try to hide this behind a welcoming and "tourist friendly" façade. In reality, they contributed heavily to the causes of the Great War, and while they endure, they have fallen only farther and farther into corruption. Most of the power is concentrated into a few ancient, powerful families, though a growing resistance to their power has begun to form in recent decades. If one needs an indicator of how corrupt Lyne is, there are still owrgs known to appear there, drawn to the evil and corruption that lurks beneath the well-ordered surface of the kingdom.

  • Lyne hates and fears the fae above perhaps all else. In the past, Lyne has even tried to eradicate the fae. This failed utterly, but the kingdom remains extremely hostile to anything remotely connected to the fae. The kingdom has absorbed what began as basically their own anti-fae propaganda into a socio-cultural bias that has largely shaped their perception of the fae, so it tends to be inculcated in the populace from a young age.
  • Lyne has an Order of Magi, but it is little more than a tool of the state to rigidly control the use of magic.

Witchers

The Kingdom of Lyne is known as a place where "witchers" or "monster-hunters" are common. They are known to be trained at Kaer Morhen, north of Lyne and overlooking the Great Lake of Telliosan. They are viewed with great skepticism within Lyne and, by virtue of the "dirty jobs" they tend to do and Lyne's questionable reputation abroad, may often be viewed with unease even in more magic-friendly kingdoms. Most notably, they are often called upon to hunt the deadly owrgs that so often threaten to overrun Lyne.
