Roxas is Sora's Nobody, created when Sora sacrificed himself to the darkness, yet also influenced by Ventus' heart, which he carried for nearly a year when Sora could not. Manipulated into joining Organization XIII by Xemnas as the Key of Destiny, Roxas rebelled against the organization, reunited with Sora, and was then released by Sora into a body of his own. Now that he's free, Roxas has joined the Guardians of Light. A kind-hearted guy who'd rather save his fighting for Struggle tourneys and would never pick up his keyblades again if he had a choice, Roxas also knows firsthand how twisted the slaves of Darkness are. Until the triumph of the Light over the Dark, he remains the Guardians' walking instrument of FAFO.

Personality

To understand Roxas is to understand his origins. Roxas is - or was - a Nobody. He was created from Sora's body and soul when Sora voluntarily severed his heart from both. However, Roxas' creation had two unique circumstances. The first circumstance was that Sora was carrying a second Heart - that of the Keyblade Wielder Ventus. The second was that Kairi used her own latent magic as one of the Princesses of Heart to create a new body and soul for Sora.

The result is that Roxas is a kind-hearted and courageous young man with a deeply embedded sense of right and wrong. He can be goofy, silly and sweet, though he's a bit understated compared to Sora and Ventus. He can also be blunt and stubborn. He stands his ground and is confrontational, and when provoked his temper can be volcanic. Where Sora might react with grief and Ventus with an icy, firm resolve, Roxas channels anger into power. He also has moments of being cocky and arrogant - though he has the skills to back those moments of arrogance up.

Roxas can be noticeay dark in temperament sometimes; the trauma he experienced while working with Organization XIII and prior to his reunion with Sora was intense - Xemnas, DiZ and others treated him as a thing to be manipulated and disposed of as needed. While he no longer doubts his own personhood thanks to Sora, he has no patience for manipulative games played by others and they're certain to inflame his temper and cause him to step in. His loyalty to Sora is absolute, thanks to their connection and Sora's immediate affirmation of Roxas' own humanity when they actually had a chance to speak to one another, and by extension, he is a steadfast friend and ally to the rest of the Guardians of Light. Thanks to his origins, Roxas is a being who straddles the Darkness and the Light. The Light gives him his innate sense of justice and decency and his boundless willpower and resolve; the Darkness gives him passion and an inner drive he channels into power. What Roxas really longs for is a peaceful life where he can lie on the beach, go skateboarding and have sea-salt ice cream with his friends. If he could, he'd never pick up a weapon more dangerous than a Struggle Bat ever again. But that's not how life ended up, and he has to fight. He's going to make the servants of darkness regret it.

Background

In ancient days, a force known as the Darkness arose from beyond the stars. It sought out living creatures and worlds to consume. When it consumed a person's heart, they became shadows of their former selves, heartless minions to the Darkness. Long ago, a wise king named Ansem became one of the first known Keyblade Masters, taking on apprentices to oppose the Darkness. One of these apprentices, Xehanort, would betray the king and banish him into the shadows of the Darkness itself. Xehanort's lust for power led him to tap deeply into the Darkness, corrupting him and the other apprentices and transforming them into shadows of their former selves. Those who had suffered this fate eventually formed the shadowy Organization XIII, dedicated to saving themselves from the Darkness they had tapped into. However, Xehanort secretly craved greater power, threatening to break barriers between worlds and cause chaos and destruction. This unleashed a tide of Darkness on a place called Destiny Island, which existed in a vast ocean Between Worlds.

Created when Sora temporarily became a Heartless in his first major battle with the Darkness, Roxas is a Nobody--an echo of Sora created by his brush with the Darkness. Roxas spent most of his life among Organization XIII, working towards their shadowy goals without really understanding them. He made a few friends, and when he lost one thanks to the Organization's plots, Roxas broke free of them. Regaining memories of his life as Sora, Roxas set out to meet him. Instead, he ended up temporarily imprisoned in a dream-realm called Twilight Town, where he lived some of his life as a normal guy until he was finally able to break free and actually meet Sora. The two became fast friends, finding that they complimented each other very nicely in both abilities and temperament.

Like Sora, Roxas became a Keyblade Master, dual-wielding the magical Keyblades Oathkeeper and Oblivion as a guardian of the ways between worlds and a defender of those worlds. Together, he and Sora found various allies, and they confronted and seemingly defeated Xehanort, though it always remains possible that the villain might return one day. Since then, Organization XIII still exists, though not without occasional changes to its membership and purposes. Roxas has met allies and enemies along his way, encountering many strange stories and situations, but he always returns where he is needed and often wanders the worlds, seeking to help each world's heroes and defenders.

SKILLS

Athletics - Expert Level

Roxas is exceptionally athletic, able to leap, climb, dodge, tumble, and so forth with the very best of them.

Brawling - Novice Level

Roxas has been in a few scraps without a sword, but it's not his preferred method of fighting.

Charisma - Competent Level

Roxas lacks some of Sora's naïve charm, but he's still naturally charismatic and good at appealing to others.

Lore - Novice Level

Roxas is far from a lore master, but he has a pretty good basic understanding of everything from mystic phenomena and magical creatures to culture and mathematics.

Piloting - Competent Level

Roxas inherited Sora's knowledge of sailing, driving, piloting spacecraft, and more. He can manage just about any kind of vehicst about any kind of vehicle.

Spellcasting - Novice Level

Roxas inherited basic magic knowledge from Sora, but he has much left to learn. He can cast and identify an array of common and simple spells.

Stealth - Novice Level

Roxas is no kind of ninja, but he can sneak around all right even in some unusual locations, such as in the wilderness or a crumbling ruin.

Survival - Competent Level

Whether the wilds of Arcadia, the streets of Sangria, or the diverse locations of Superia and Futura, Roxas is good at knowing how to survive and stay safe in them.

Weaponry - Expert Level

Roxas is one of the greatest Keyblade wielders currently active. In the past he has disarmed Sora and fought Riku to a stalemate. Roxas' unique circumstances led him to develop the ability to summon and wield two Keyblades, and he is the master of the dual-keyblade style. While his primary weapons are the keyblades Oathkeeper and Oblivion, Roxas is a terror with a Struggle Bat and can thrash Heartless with a stick if he has to. He's equally adept fighting with one or two keyblades, though he prefers to wield two. Roxas' fighting style is aggressive and offensive-focused, focusing on fast movements, flash-stepping in to brutalize an opponent with Oathkeeper and Oblivion and then flash-stepping just out of reach of their counterattacks, before resuming the assault.

ABILITIES

Power: Agility - Basic Level

In his default form, Roxas has agility typical of a healthy, active human being.

Power: Dark Corridors - Supreme Level

Being a Nobody, Roxas can open tunnels of darkness to travel between worlds and around places in general. They have an extremely long range, and travel between familiar places is almost instantaneous, though unfamiliar locations may take greater time (based on what is narratively appropriate). These tunnels are dangerous to travel through unless you're wearing a specially enchanted protective cloak, though fortunately Roxas does have one. Even so, he doesn't use the corridors much.

Magic: Dark Magic - Enhanced Level

Dark Magic is one of the two types of magic Roxas excels at, channeling Darkness into blasts of energy that can inflict severe harm upon opponents, particularly those with an affinity for Light. Roxas focuses his Dark attacks by channeling them through the Oblivion keyblade. He can pair this with Light magic channeled through the Oathkeeper keyblade to make dual Light and Dark magic attacks.

Magic: Light Magic - Enhanced Level

Light Magic is one of the two types of magic Roxas excels at, channeling Light into blasts of energy that can inflict severe harm upon opponents, particularly those with an affinity for Darkness. Roxas focuses his Light attacks by channeling them through the Oathkeeper keyblade. He can pair this with Dark magic channeled through the Oblivion keyblade to make dual Light and Dark magic attacks.

Magic: Magic - Basic Level

Roxas' strongest kinds of magic are Light magic and Dark magic, explained elsewhere. However, he does have a decent level of skill with other types of magic, particularly the elemental spells - Fire, Ice/Water, Thunder, and Air, Gravity magic that can draw objects and creatures toward the caster, repel them or crush them, Stop magic that can immobilize a target for a few seconds, and reflect magic that can provide temporary shielding against attacks.

Weapon: Oathkeeper - Enhanced Level

One of the two forms of the keyblade Roxas has the strongest affinity with. Oathkeeper is an advanced Keyblade with a strong Light affinity making it highly effective against beings aligned with Darkness, and has the ability to channel powerful magic. Oathkeeper's keychain is a trinket called "Kairi's Wayfinder" that looks like a piece of paopu fruit, which for Roxas represents his connections to others like Sora, Axel and Xion and their presence in his heart, his loyalty to his friends, and his noble spirit. Like all keyblades Oathkeeper can unlock doors to other worlds that Roxas can travel through.

Weapon: Oblivion - Enhanced Level

One of the two forms of the keyblade Roxas has the strongest affinity with. Oblivion is an advanced Keyblade with a strong Darkness affinity making it highly effective against beings aligned with Light, and is one of the most brutally powerful forms of the Keyblade in general, on par with the Ultima Weapon. Oblivion's keychain is a trinket called "Pandora Gear" that looks like a tarnished version of Sora's crown medallion, which for Roxas represents his origins from the Darkness as Sora's nobody, and his ability to channel that darkness into passion and power. Like all keyblades Oathkeeper can unlock doors to other worlds that Roxas can travel through.

Power: Toughness - Enhanced Level

Even in his default form, Roxas is considerably tougher than a typical human. If he does take enough hits to be hurt, he can recover from significant damage if given time to rest, coming back from even seemingly fatal wounds after a night's sleep.

Power: Willpower - Enhanced Level

Roxas has a strong heart, as they say. Even when all else is stripped away, he has exceptional mental and spiritual fortitude. This enables him to better resist compulsion, intimidation, or anything else that would compromise his free will, though it does not grant him special defenses against damaging mind-based attacks or prevent others from, say, reading his thoughts.

The Kingdom

Castle of Delights

The Keyblade Masters operate out of a place Between Worlds known as the Castle of Delights. They do not control the castle, but it recognizes them as allies and allows them to dwell there in safety and use it as a base of operations in their fight against the Darkness. The castle is a virtually impregnable magical fortress whose power shields its occupants and sustains them. Attacking it is quite a fool's errand, but those who occupy the castle must in return offer hospitality and the delights of the castle to anyone who is able to find it and comes in peace. As such, when they aren't busy fighting the Darkness or aiding other worlds, the Keyblade Masters sometimes find themselves serving as unofficial guides, hosts, or caretakers at the castle, as needed.

Gear

There are a variety of simple, commonplace supplies any smart adventurer keeps on hand. Roxas has good quality clothing, a few camping supplies, rations, a supply of healing potions, and other simple things that get him through the day. He also carries a few personal effects with primarily sentimental value.

Keyblade Master

As one of the Keyblade Masters, Roxas is able to access their various resources. These include access to the Castle of Delights, which they operate out of, the Keyblade itself, and their form-changing aerospace craft, the Kingdom. Naturally, it also includes whatever other members of the Keyblade Masters are also active at the time.

Nobodies

Nobodies are what's left of the bodies and souls of strong-willed individuals who've lost their hearts. The strongest Nobodies, of which Roxas was/is one, retain their human appearance, others look like grey humanlike beings with twisted amorphous forms. Greater nobodies have the ability to command the lesser. Each member of Organization XIII was given the ability to command the lowest forms of nobodies, Dusks and Creepers, along with a higher-ranked form of Nobody. Roxas' subservient Nobodies are the Samurai Nobodies, sword-wielding nobodies known for their tactical skill and combat ability. Despite no longer being part of Organization 13, these nobodies still treat Roxas as a superior, calling him "Liege", acting to defend him and obeying his commands. Roxas doesn't like commanding these Nobodies since it reminds him of his time in Organization XIII, but without someone controlling them the emotionless Nobodies can be dangerous. Even the most basic Nobody has the ability to grow a heart of their own and become a Somebody again with time and patience, and so Roxas has begun to encourage his Nobodies to do things that will help them gain new Hearts. Unlike Heartless who run purely on destructive instinct, Nobodies are intelligent, capable of carrying out complex tasks like cooking and cleaning, and will even seek to alleviate boredom when idle by doing things like cooking, cleaning, and playing games.

Resources

While he is certainly not rich, Sora has a small store of coin saved up from the last couple of years. He is usually able to support his fairly meager needs with whatever jobs he can find, and even add a little to this stash at times.

The Kingdom

The Keyblade Masters have an aerospace ship of magical nature called The Kingdom. Classified as a General Utility Mobile Modular Interface ship, it can be an airship, a jet, a starship--whatever it needs to be, depending on what world it travels to. It has Enhanced-level armor and weaponry, able to stand up reasonably well in a fight, but its main purpose is to facilitate travel between Worlds with greater speed and safety than mere wandering might allow. The ship is small and not really designed for long-term occupation, but it has sufficient accommodations to make long journeys tolerable.

WEAKNESSES

Anger

If pushed, Roxas can be temperamental and volatile. His anger can burn so hot he may fly into an uncontrollable rage, smashing things for lack of any real target, or he may focus on his target so acutely that if they do something that surprises him, it catches him flat-footed and leaves him open to a attack. This is what led to his defeats by both Sora and Riku in the past, for example.

Enemies

Roxas has made a few enemies since becoming a Keyblade Master. Among these enemies are the shadowy Organization XIII and the fallen Keyblade Master, Xehanort, who founded it. The greatest enemy, of course, is the Darkness, itself, an otherworldly force that seeks to consume everything light and living in all the worlds. On a small scale, it can claim a person's heart, transforming them into a heartless shade-minion, but on the grand scale, it can consume entire worlds, and this is what the Keyblade Masters must always fight to oppose. They are not alone in this fight, of course, as the Darkness takes many forms and is opposed by many heroes, but they are staunchly dedicated to their cause.

Heartless

Wielding a keyblade is as much a duty as it is a privilege. A Keyblade's purpose is to destroy Heartless, setting trapped Hearts free so that they might one day be reunited with their souls to be reborn into a body once more. However, a Keyblade also attracts Heartless, who seek to destroy the Keyblade wielder. When a wielder of a Keyblade ventures to where the Heartless are, those Heartless are compelled to appear and attack the wielder. When trying to root out the Heartless, this can be useful. But a Keyblade wielder traveling in a place infested by Heartless will have to fight their way through every step of the way, since they have noplace to hide.
